Windward Community College Library & Learning Resource Center Using Masonry to bring old architectural style back to campus
Here in the Windward side of the island, a new three story structure with sloped clay tile roofs and a plaster exterior with a stucco- like finish over masonry blocks, rises in keeping with the Spanish Mission Revival architectural style established on the existing campus of the University of Hawaii, Windward Community College. The facility will act as a focal point within the campus while blending with the existing campus architecture. It is strategically located at the end of the campus quadrangle, an open green space flanked by the major campus buildings. The design will encourage the use of daylight deep into the building and allow for both ocean and mountain views on the exterior. CMU was chosen primarily because of its durability and its level of performance on existing schools.
The Architect on this project is Architects Hawaii Limited and the Structural Engineer is Englekirk Partners Consulting Structural Engineers.
